Jesus said, 'Make disciples!'

By Tony Villiers

I'm just reading Building a discipling culture by Mike Breen and it's really challenging me and making me think about all sorts of things in how we do church. Here's a great quote to make you think too!

'Pastors started saying they didn't want to be inwardly-focused so they stopped investing in the people in their churches so they could focus on people outside their churches. Granted, we should focus on people who don't know Jesus yet, but Jesus himself gave us the model for doing that: Disciple people. If you know how to actually make disciples, you'll reach people who don't know Jesus. Because that's simply what disciples do. That was Jesus' whole plan. If you disciple people, as these people do mission in their everyday comings and goings, with the work and shaping of the Spirit, the future of the church will emerge.'

Pray for Newday

 By Tony Villiers

Newday is fast approaching! This is a major event held at the Norwich Showground from 29 July to 3 August, where literally thousands of young people will gather for great worship and superb teaching. We have a good number going this year so please begin to pray now that God will impact our youth powerfully - meeting their needs, giving them a heart for the gospel and equipping them to serve. Spare a prayer for their leaders too, and that all the practical things will go smoothly and safely. Once again, our group will be camping alongside Silklife Church, Macclesfield, sharing cooking and I’m sure lots of fun!

Thought for a new week

 By Tony Villiers

Before you get caught up in the challenges of a new and busy week, please can I recommend that in all you are facing you take the advice of Proverbs 16:3: 'Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.'

Our plans and activities will be no less our own for having been handed over to God, but by letting him take the lead they may well seem less burdensome and more straightforward than before.

Money Matters makes a difference

  By Tony Villiers

Our free-to-client debt advice service continues to be busy and we have lots of stories of folks whose lives have been improved through the help they have received. One exciting development is that we have been asked to work with Milton Keynes Council for the benefit of their clients to deliver an excellent budgeting course that has been written by our own Claudia Bell. This is a great opportunity for us to 'seek the peace and prosperity of the city' (Jeremiah 29:7).
