Proverb of the week!

 By Tony Villiers

'A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger' (Proverbs 15:1, NIV).

As we enter a fresh week please can I recommend you reflect on the wisdom in this verse and apply it in your relationships. You may be in the position of offering correction to someone this week or you might be the one on the receiving end. Either way a difficult conversation is far more likely to lead to an argument and to division if either party gets offensive, which will do no good to the relationship. If we want our words to be heard let's take care how we offer them, and be guided by concern for the other person's well-being, not allowing ourselves to be mastered by anger or self-righteousness.

When we disagree it's vital that we try to communicate with as much kindness as when we have something positive to say. One harsh word is capable of undoing many encouraging words! Let's, 'as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe [ourselves] with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience' (Colossians 3:12).

Charity auction in aid of Willen Hospice, this Friday

 By Tony Villiers

There are still tickets available for our charity auction in aid of Willen Hospice this Friday, 4th October, 7.30pm at Middleton Primary School. I’d like to encourage you to support this excellent charity that makes such a difference to so many people in our local community. Buy your ticket on the night or call the church office for further info on 01908 281380. Even if you can’t come, why not buy a ticket, anyway? You’d be giving £3 to Willen Hospice and you’ll automatically be entered into our raffle.

Many thanks to the individuals and local businesses that have given such fantastic donations to the auction and provided a range of great prizes to be won in our raffle: MK Dons tickets; meals out at Loch Fyne, Wagamamas and The Swan Milton Keynes Village; Gulliver’s theme park tickets; champagne and wine; music lessons from professional teachers; Body Shop products; a professional photo shoot; and car maintenance, electrical work, plumbing and property maintenance done by local professionals. And if you need a baby sitter you can bid for that too!

Added to all this we’ll be having some live music and MK’s own poet laureate will be giving us a special performance. Just bring your cash or cheque book (sorry, no chip & pin), along with something to drink and some nibbles, and join us for a great night out for a very good cause.
