How we love MK...

 By Nic Andrews

At Grace Church we love Milton Keynes and all the people who live here. That's why we want to do good things that make practical differences to the lives of individuals in the community. Our recent barn dance was in aid of MK-based charity Willen Hospice, which offers such excellent care to people and their families facing the most difficult challenges. A fantastic time was had by all with the OddSox ceilidh band playing such a jaunty set even the staunchest non-dancers were tempted out on to the floor. We also had a great time chatting with friends old and new as we tucked in to the excellent buffet. And best of all we raised over £300 for Willen Hospice.

We have a particular heart for the needy in our city, and in the light of national statistics showing that some wards of Milton Keynes are within 10 per cent of the most deprived areas in England, it's crucial that local churches do all they can to help. At our non-traditional harvest service last week we collected lots of food to give to MK's Food Bank, a charity providing such a practical lifeline to people experiencing desperate financial hardship. The Food Bank team were delighted with the amount of food we were able to donate, so thank you for your generosity, Grace Church! In the service we also heard some powerful stories of how Money Matters - our free money advice service - continues to help many local people with their financial problems.

We know that such activities are only a drop in the ocean but to demonstrate our love for our city in practical ways is, as Mother Teresa said, a drop in the right ocean.
